Forced Lending "Guidelines" Is Nuts

Chuckie Schumer and cohorts are out to force financial institutions who received bailout money to lend more money.

A federal guidance document could be released this week.

"Some details are still being worked out, but the primary goal of the guidance document is to increase lending, which has seized up as a result of the financial crisis in recent months. Experts believe the economy will not begin to recover until the loan markets are working again. Yet, by increasing their lending, banks could expose themselves to more losses. In the economic downturn, people most eager to borrow increasingly are considered the most risky."

This is exactly what happened to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Democrat lawmakers pressured and forced risky loans in the name of "fairness" to people who couldn't afford them and couldn't pay them back.

Loan markets will work again when the housing / mortgage crisis is stabilized.

Banks who ignore the federal guidelines are subject to "sanctions". A Chuck Schumer threat by any other name.

The Constitution says the courts should decide cases based on the rule of law without regard to a person's status.

Obama wants to change consumer behavior on energy by fixing prices through "price signals".

Obama: "I think it is important for us to send some price signals to change behavior."

Ed Morrissey: "Is that the function of government — to fix prices as a punitive measure to change consumer behavior? It will be in an Obama administration. He and a few elites will decide which consumer behaviors are bad, and penalize it with price signals."

Obama will take it a step farther and bankrupt the coal industry.

Obama: "...it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted."

That's a sure job killer to drive an entire industry out of existence by driving up costs and making it totally unaffordable for producers and consumers even though we get half our electrical from coal.

These refunds would go to those who already don't pay any income tax.

"Mr. Obama is proposing to create or expand a slew of government spending programs that are disguised as tax credits."

"The spending on these programs is then subtracted from the total tax burden, in order to make the claim that his tax plan is a net tax cut overall." This is the source of his mumbo-jumbo about a tax cut for 95% of families making less than $200,000.

Obama will tax, tax, tax and spend, spend, spend.

"Overall, the bottom 60% of income earners pay less than 1% of federal income taxes on net."

"When "tax credits" primarily go to this group in the form of checks from the government (rather than a reduction in their tax burden) it is simply an abuse of the language to call the spending a tax cut."

"The Obama tax plan would sharply increase real taxes. It also would come nowhere near to paying for the massive increases in federal spending he has proposed, including the spending that is disguised in the form of refundable tax credits."

Obama Accepts Fraudulent Campaign Donations

The Obama website has "intentionally disabled all the basic credit-card-processing security checks and thereby enabled multiple contributions from donors with fake names".

Obama accepted donations from "Fake Donor" "John Galt", "Saddam Hussein", "Osama bin Laden", and "William Ayers". The credit card used paid the charges.

These same donations were rejected at the McCain site.

Now Obama is accepting untraceable pre-paid credit cards. These cards "make it impossible to tell whether foreign nationals, donors who have exceeded the limits, government contractors or others who are barred from giving to a federal campaign are making contributions".
One lady showed up on Obama's FEC donation report as having donated $174,800. She never made the donation and her credit card was never charged "meaning someone appropriated her name and made the contributions with another card".

The Obama camp says they screen donations "on the back end of the transaction to determine whether a contribution is legitimate".

Why go to all the trouble to disable security measures and create more unnecessary work by issuing refunds on the back end when the transactions could be prevented upfront like retailers do?

There's only one logical reason. They don't want to. It appears they want to enable the fraud.

So, Obama collects money fraudulently, then promotes "wealth redistribution". Oh yeah, I forgot, that's his tax plan.

"One year ago, he made a promise. He pledged to accept public financing and to work with the Republican nominee to ensure that they both operated within those limits."

Obama's pledges aren't worth much -- not nearly as much as fraudulent donations.

Senator Obama has made a lot of promises. First he said people making
less than 250,000 dollars would benefit from his plan, then this weekend he
announced in an ad that if you're a family making less than 200,000 dollars
you'll benefit -- but yesterday, right here in Pennsylvania, Senator Biden said
tax relief should only go to "middle class people -- people making under 150,000
dollars a year." It's interesting how their definition of rich has a way of
creeping down. At this rate, it won't be long before Senator Obama is right back
to his vote that Americans making just 42,000 dollars a year should get a tax
increase. We can't let that happen.

It's never too late to learn the truth about Obama's "hope" and "change".

McCain can squeak it out. But every voter who wants to prevent Obama from turning this country into a socialized welfare state must get out and vote for John McCain.

On Chicago public radio in 2001, Obama said it was a "tragedy" that the Supreme Court did not break the constraints of the founding fathers and re-interpret the Constitution to enforce "redistribution of wealth" during the Civil Rights movement.

Civil Rights was a reform movement to abolish discrimination against African-Americans.

He said community organizers enable coalition of powers to bring about "redistributive change". No wonder he's been in bed with ACORN his entire career.

Obama said the courts aren't really structured to bring about this redistribution; a theoretical case can be argued to legislate this redistribution; and then the revelation -- redistribution is an administrative task.

The maximum donation allowed for the "Obama Victory Fund" is $28,500, so the DNC created the "Committee for Change".

American tribes and several of Obama's most ardent bundlers."

This enables soft money donors to contribute to "each facet of the Obama fundraising machine".

gave $18,500 directly to the campaign, they donated $57,000 to the Victory Fund,

There are always loopholes for big money donors.

Less than 1/4 of Obama's $600,000 raised has come from donations of $200 or less.

The RNC has separate committees as well, but they are not claiming that most of their money has come from small donations as Obama has claimed.

Contrast this article with today's WaPo editorial entitled, $150 Million Man. This article says that Obama's $600,000 in compaign donations are not
"evidence of the pernicious return of big money to federal
campaigns....Much of Mr. Obama's money has arrived in small donations; in any
event, donors are limited to a maximum of $4,600 ($2,300 each for the primary
and general election). Mr. Obama's haul reflects the enormous enthusiasm his
campaign has generated".

Give me a break. I'm laughing so hard I can't see straight. Enormous enthusiasm? Come on. Enormous enthusiasm of big money donors is more accurate.

WaPo is troubled that Obama went back on his word to accept public financing and wonders if Obama's flip-flop is a matter of ethics.

95% Tax Crud

It's not a tax cut, it's a tax credit. Refund checks will be issued to people even if they pay no income tax at all.

"In other words, they are an income transfer -- a federal check -- from taxpayers to nontaxpayers. Once upon a time we called this "welfare,"..."

"The Tax Foundation estimates that under the Obama plan 63 million Americans, or 44% of all tax filers, would have no income tax liability and most of those would get a check from the IRS each year. The Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis estimates that by 2011, under the Obama plan, an additional 10 million filers would pay zero taxes while cashing checks from the IRS."

All the cash Obama wanted to spend on health care, education and
infrastructure just walked out the door en route to Wall Street. He must either
abandon his program, hike taxes on almost everyone or run a huge
deficit.

His ties to unrepentent terrorist William Ayers will also draw new
attention. The record clearly shows that Obama was lying when he called
Ayers just a guy "who lives in my neighborhood."

Ayers got a $50 million grant for the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Obama was put in charge of giving out the money and funded left-wing
groups like ACORN for a program that's now billed as "school reform"
but amounted to political indoctrination.

As Stanley Kurtz wrote in The Wall Street Journal, Obama and Ayers "worked
as a team to advance the CAC agenda," namely "Ayers' educational
philosophy, which called for infusing students and their parents with a radical
political commitment, and which downplayed achievement tests in favor of
activism."

the poison they spread throughout the financial sector. Democrats have
begun calling it a failure of “deregulation”, but they spent years protecting

tried pushing legislation to strengthen regulation on the two GSEs.

McCain has to redefine this crisis to the reality of Democratic (and
Republican) indifference to the corruption and bad business practices of Fannie
and Freddie. He has to argue that government distortion of lending markets
for political gain created the crisis, and that Democratic defense of the GSEs
delayed regulatory action until it was too late — and Barack Obama stood on the
sidelines and did nothing to stop the collapse.

Last month's narrowly averted plot to blow up airliners bound for the U.S. from Great Britain is a stark reminder that we are engaged in an extraordinary and dangerous global war. In 46 days, the American people will make an important decision about how we prosecute that war: Do we stay on the offense and use every tool available to defeat the enemy, or do we elect leaders who would weaken America and surrender key tools we need to defeat the global jihad?

This war began long before September 11, 2001. For a generation, the terrorists have attacked free nations, from the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich to the 444 days that American hostages were held in Iran; from the 1983 Beirut attacks to the bombings of the World Trade Center in 1993, Riyadh in 1995 and Khobar Towers in 1996; from the embassy attacks in 1998 to bombing of the USS Cole in 2000. Too often, free nations responded weakly, or not at all, so the enemy grew emboldened. The result was 9/11.

Now we understand that we face a radical global movement of Islamic fascists, held together by a totalitarian ideology as deadly as the ones we faced in World War II or the Cold War. This movement ebbs and flows. Its adherents meet in cyberspace instead of buildings. They gather on blogs instead of barracks. A terrorist in Syria can recruit allies in the heart of Europe and a cell leader in Asia can activate an attack in the U.S., all without leaving their homes. That makes this enemy difficult to defeat. They constantly adapt -- so we must as well.

That is why the choice we face on Nov. 7 is so critical. Democratic leaders are saying Iraq is a diversion from the war on terror, that we should be more focused on defending the homeland. But again and again, the Democrats have proposed weakening our defenses.

We learned on 9/11 the need for coordination between federal, state and local governments; yet the majority of congressional Democrats voted against re-authorization of the Patriot Act. The foiled airplane plot re-emphasized the importance of following an enemy whose command and control is often obscure; yet Democrats opposed the NSA surveillance program and praised an activist judge's attempt to shut it down.

We need to aggressively and effectively interrogate captured terrorists in order to stop their plans before they come to fruition; yet Democrats want to handcuff those efforts. Terrorists cannot build IEDs or buy weapons without funding, but when the New York Times disclosed a secret program that was tracking their financing, more than 85% of House Democrats voted against a resolution supporting the program and condemning its media disclosure. We need to stop rogue regimes like Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons; yet Democrats want to take any use of force off the table.

Even more dangerous is that Democrats truly seem to believe that Iraq is completely separate from the greater war on terror. Al Qaeda's leaders are not confused about the importance of Iraq to their goal of global jihad. Osama bin Laden's No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has said his plan is to use Iraq as a base to launch further attacks, with the goal of creating a new caliphate in the Middle East. He wants to turn Iraq into another Taliban-era Afghanistan, except one strategically located between Syria and Iran, and sitting on one of the world's largest supplies of oil. Osama bin Laden himself said that the American withdrawal from Somalia emboldened his movement before 9/11. Imagine the victory celebrations among the terrorists if we were to retreat from Iraq. Yet this is exactly what Howard Dean and a majority of Democrats would have us do. In 46 days, we must ask ourselves, would surrendering Iraq to the enemy make us safer -- or less safe?

Here at home, we are also working to reform government. We live in a global economy, one in which it is just as easy to create jobs in India as it is in Indiana. Republicans understand this, which is why we are committed to lower taxes, less regulation and fewer lawsuits. Republicans have cut taxes every year since George W. Bush was elected president. We have streamlined regulations, reformed bankruptcy laws, offered choice to Medicare recipients, and limited class-action lawsuits. The Democrats opposed every single one of those reforms -- and they are pledging to stand in our way as we move forward.

Republicans want to eliminate the death tax once and for all. Democrats want to bring it back. Republicans want to explore new sources of energy to bring gas and heating prices down. Democrats want to block domestic exploration. Republicans want small businesses to be able to band together to provide health care to their employees at a reasonable price. Democrats don't believe entrepreneurs should have that freedom. Republicans want all parents to have the choice of where they send their kids to school. Democrats would limit that choice to the rich and powerful. The list goes on and on.

It would be foolish not to acknowledge the challenges Republicans face this election cycle. We are up against history. It has been close to a century since Republicans have held the White House and the House of Representatives for eight straight years. Winning four elections in a row doesn't happen that often.

Each election is unique, and the issues and candidates in the governor's race in Michigan are different from congressional races in California or the Senate contest in Tennessee. But there can be no doubt about the national and international import of the choice we all face as Americans. We face war and a changing global economy, and Republicans have very different strategies for victory than the Democrats. I believe the American people understand the choice of 2006, which is why I am confident that in 46 days Republicans will make history and maintain our majorities in Congress.

End of an Affair

It turns out that the person who exposed CIA agent Valerie Plame was not
out to punish her husband.

WE'RE RELUCTANT to return to the subject of former CIA employee Valerie
Plame because of our oft-stated belief that far too much attention and debate in
Washington has been devoted to her story and that of her husband, former
ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, over the past three years. But all those who
have opined on this affair ought to take note of the not-so-surprising
disclosure that the primary source of the newspaper column in which Ms. Plame's
cover as an agent was purportedly blown in 2003 was former deputy secretary of
state Richard L. Armitage.

Mr. Armitage was one of the Bush administration officials who supported the
invasion of Iraq only reluctantly. He was a political rival of the White House
and Pentagon officials who championed the war and whom Mr. Wilson accused of
twisting intelligence about Iraq and then plotting to destroy him. Unaware that
Ms. Plame's identity was classified information, Mr. Armitage reportedly passed
it along to columnist Robert D. Novak "in an offhand manner, virtually as
gossip," according to a story this week by the Post's R. JeffreySmith, who
quoted a former colleague of Mr. Armitage.

It follows that one of the most sensational charges leveled against the
Bush White House -- that it orchestrated the leak of Ms. Plame's identity to
ruin her career and thus punish Mr. Wilson -- is untrue. The partisan clamor
that followed the raising of that allegation by Mr. Wilson in the summer of 2003
led to the appointment of a special prosecutor, a costly and prolonged
investigation, and the indictment of Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, I.
Lewis "Scooter" Libby, on charges of perjury. All of that might have been
avoided had Mr. Armitage's identity been known three years ago.

That's not to say that Mr. Libby and other White House officials are
blameless. As prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald has reported, when Mr. Wilson
charged that intelligence about Iraq had been twisted to make a case for war,
Mr. Libby and Mr. Cheney reacted by inquiring about Ms. Plame's role in
recommending Mr. Wilson for a CIA-sponsored trip to Niger, where he investigated
reports that Iraq had sought to purchase uranium. Mr. Libby then allegedly
disclosed Ms. Plame's identity to journalists and lied to a grand jury when he
said he had learned of her identity from one of those reporters. Mr. Libby and
his boss, Mr. Cheney, were trying to discredit Mr. Wilson; if Mr. Fitzgerald's
account is correct, they were careless about handling information that was
classified.

Nevertheless, it now appears that the person most responsible for the end
of Ms. Plame's CIA career is Mr. Wilson. Mr. Wilson chose to go public with an
explosive charge, claiming -- falsely, as it turned out -- that he had debunked
reports of Iraqi uranium-shopping in Niger and that his report had circulated to
senior administration officials. He ought to have expected that both those
officials and journalists such as Mr. Novak would ask why a retired ambassador
would have been sent on such a mission and that the answer would point to his
wife. He diverted responsibility from himself and his false charges by claiming
that President Bush's closest aides had engaged in an illegal conspiracy. It's

Too Soft On Illegals

I can hear the laughter of illegals already as they realize that the Bush plan will allow some of them to stay exactly where they are in exactly the job they came here illegally to fill, with no price except the same obligations every citizen has already - work, pay your taxes, speak English."

Meanwhile, the suckers who are obeying the law wait patiently in their home countries wondering when the gate will kick open for them. I lose count tallying the people who should be insulted by this.

So, at the risk of offending mightily those who have made excuses for lawbreakers ranging from our borders to the business community, here's what will work. These are not options; they are requirements. Take away one element, and the whole plan is useless.

1. Get serious about border control. A real wall. A virtual wall. Thousands more Border Patrol agents. Take your pick, but we must shut down the cascades of illegals who started the problem and who threaten to perpetuate it.

2. Enact 100 percent deportation of every illegal we find. No more hand-wringing about families. I have the same empathy for those kids that I do for the kids of criminals who must go to jail, leaving children without parents. At least with deportation, the family remains intact - they simply return to the country the parents unwisely chose to leave.

And no more nonsense about the impossibility of finding all of them. No one pretends we can find every illegal immigrant, every speeder, every dope smoker, but we find the ones we can, recognizing that behaviors made illegal tend to decrease.

3. Crack down on employers who hire illegals, thus drying up the job market that attracts them. This cannot be done without a high-tech ID system that provides a card proving a job applicant's legal employability. The expense of this will be considerable, but considerably less than the toll illegal immigration takes on our society every year.

4. Develop a sensible citizenship application process that enables a limited number of candidates to apply easily from their home countries upon verification of a clean criminal record and a signed commitment to achieve English proficiency.

Great leaders know when compromise is appropriate and when it is not. This is not a tax cut debate or even a stem cell debate. It is a battle for what kind of country we are going to have."

But would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that we're on our way? Please let him know that we'll be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services we might need, whether we use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. We'll want our kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5. Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. We want our kids to see the American flag flying on the top of the flag pole at their school with the Mexican flag flying lower down.

7. Plan to feed our kids a free breakfast and lunch at school.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I don't plan to purchase car insurance, and I won't know, and don't plan to learn, any of their local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from President Fox to leave us alone, please be sure that all their police officers speak English.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic family celebration on July 4th but we don't want any complaints or negative comments from the neighbors.

12. I would also like to have a nice "temporary" job but I won't be paying any taxes, and don't expect their labor laws to apply to me.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say anything critical about me or my family, or about the strain we might be placing on their economy.

Bob Woodward has testified that a WH official told him that Plame Wilson was a CIA officer BEFORE Scooter Libby told Judith Miller.

Woodward Testimony a 'Bombshell' for CIA Leak Case

Woodward's testimony "shows that Libby was not the first government official to tell a reporter the secret identity of a CIA operative".

"Woodward and editors at the Post refused to identify the official to reporters other than to say it was not Libby."

"Woodward's account undermines Fitzgerald's argument that Libby was involved in a scheme to discredit Plame Wilson by leaking her name and identity to the press".

Fitz has asserted that Libby started a chain of phone calls to disclose the info to a reporter.

Milbank and Pincus suggest and imply the intell was "exaggerated", and that the PDB had the "most sensitive intelligence".

Democrat Timothy Kaine was elected Governor of Virginia.

His "success owed less to dissatisfaction with Bush and more to satisfaction with Mark Warner's tenure as governor." Kaine rode in on Warner's coattails.

"Republicans lost New Jersey and Virginia four years ago when the president's approval rating was at 87 percent."

"Off-year gubernatorial contests in Virginia and New Jersey have proved to be unreliable predictors of elections."

I don't see the Virginia governor's race as an ominous foreshadowing of huge Republican losses in 2006.

Still, Republicans must remain unified -- "It creates an environment where individual members start looking out for themselves rather than the whole team."

"if Republicans in Congress now start to splinter and look out only for themselves--instead of fighting for the ideas that won them power--the same could happen next year."

Some blame Bush for Virginia, but I doubt Virginians decided their vote for governor based on Bush's poll numbers.

So, this bit about "Bush sank the GOP in Virginia" is over the top.

"Every man for himself" running scared will only help the Dems in 2006.

The Dems have no ideas and one agenda -- bash Bush. The Republicans shouldn't help them.

Blustering blowhard Hugo Chavez brought his shovel to Argentina's Americas Summit, supposedly to bury free trade, but mostly he just shovelled poo-poo.

Oh, Chavez got the mob worked up with his anti-Bush, anti-U.S. rhetoric. Afterwards, these geniuses took to the street to protest Bush some more by setting fires, looting, and battling riot police.

That's the ticket -- destroy your own neighborhood -- that'll show Bush!

Maybe it's someone else's neighborhood: "...they are largely the same goofballs that show up wherever people meet to talk about free trade."

Bush left the summit unscathed.

Now on to Brazil, where more of the same is expected.

Muslim Youths Torch Paris

Nine days of rioting.

"The violence started Oct. 27 after the accidental electrocution of two teenagers who believed police were chasing them.....Since then riots have swelled into a broader challenge against the French state and its security forces."

"Within hours, the original cause of the incidents was forgotten and the issue jelled around a demand by the representatives of the rioters that the French police leave the "occupied territories."

So, the real cause of the "unrest" (hah) is French police entering the "occupied territories" where "radical Islamists propagate their message of religious
and cultural apartheid".

The apologists for this criminal behavior cite immigrant alienation and disenfranchisement. But, it looks to me like the French Muslims WANT apartheid -- not integration.

And to keep authorities out of their little "occupied territories", the wave of violence included setting fire to over 500 vehicles, and deliberately dousing a handicapped woman with flammable liquid and setting her on fire.

The French should do whatever necessary to quell the violence, and not play the "surrender monkey" card.
