China to US Congress: Butt Out

The House of Representatives, citing national security threat, has approved a resolution to block China's CNOOC takeover of Unocal.

"We demand that the U.S. Congress correct its mistaken ways of politicizing economic and trade issues and stop interfering in the normal commercial exchanges between enterprises of the two countries," the Foreign Ministry said in a written statement.

Demand? Demand? That's a bit of a stretch considering that "CNOOC remains under the majority control of the Communist Party-led state, suggesting that this alone made the deal a threat".

Nothing could politicize economics more than CNOOC ownership by the Communist state.

"China is viewed by many in Washington as an adversary."
