The Blame Game
Michelle Malkin nails it. Read the whole thing.
I've never seen so much buck passing. LA Governor Blanco is pathetic. All she seems to be able to do is whine about what she has asked for and has yet to receive. On the same level is New Orleans Mayor Nagin, who is totally ineffectual and can't do anything except cuss people out.
I've never seen such responsibility dodging and ass covering.
They had one plan -- mandatory evacuation. These are the two people who herded everyone else into the Super Dome. There was no back up plan for provisions.
Then, when shit hit the fan and the levee broke, Blanco had one plan -- mandatory evacuation.
Now these fools are blaming everyone except themselves -- FEMA, Homeland Security, Red Cross, and of course Bush.
How in hell do Katrina victims expect food, water, and bathrooms when there is no communication between agencies and no accessibility. New Orleans is underwater and there is no phone!
The priority of initial relief efforts was SEARCH and RESCUE. The first two days, all efforts were focused on saving the lives of those stranded in attics and rooftops. All these people were taken to the convention center.
National Guard can't be mustered out in the blink of an eye. Like it or not, it takes time to mobilize this kind of military presence.
Meanwhile, New Orleans reacts by creating chaos and anarchy through looting, raping, plundering, crime, assaulting hospitals, shooting rescue helicopters -- you name it.
When 9/11 hit, Rudy G. was in the street getting the job done. I never saw Mayor Nagin at the Super Dome offering guidance, reassurance, direction, leadership. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour puts Nagin and Blanco to shame.
And, I'm sick and tired of those sanctimonious news anchors who aren't doing a damn thing except criticizing those who actually are helping.
