Fort Qualls Pics
In response and opposition to Cindy Sheehan's anti-war protest, Gary Qualls established Fort Qualls in Crawford, TX in honor of his son, Louis Wayne Qualls, who died in Iraq last year.
I was in attendance to see the banner raised Sat.,
Aug. 20. The fort sits on a lot directly behind, owned and provided by, The Yellow Rose Gift Shop in Crawford.
The 3rd photo above shows Gary Qualls hoisting one of the two crosses bearing his son's name that he removed from the Cindy Sheehan camp. Qualls called the protestors actions "disrespectful" to soldiers, and was angry that his son's crosses had been put up without his permission.
The 4th photo shows horse-mounted Bill Johnson, owner of Yellow Rose Gift Shop, holding the microphone as Gary Qualls reads a letter expressing his viewpoints. Gary intended to deliver the letter, with sheriff escort, to the Crawford Peace House across the highway.
The 5th photo is a memorial to Louis Wayne Qualls. There is a cross, boots, rifle, and helmet. Adjacent is a man in minuteman attire.
